Nothing Like Lunker Largemouth Bass For Year-round Fun!
And of course, Bucketmouth deserves his own page. My most memorable moment of largemouth bass fishing was, as a young man standing well above a small pond in Nashua, New Hampshire watching a female largemouth protecting her school of hatchlings from the attack of a pickerel. As the pickerel tried to line up to cut through the school of fingerlings she would suddenly burst at it, driving it away.
Since then I've occasionally been tempted to use this as a tactic on other largemouth bass but decided it was too much like shooting them in a barrel.
Another moment was from years before, bass fishing from the shore of my local resevoir. A rebel halfback, floating plug and 4# test; for 45 minutes I twitched that plug evvvvvvvver so gently on a humid, still, summer evening, twitching to cause the faintest of ripples barely visible in the quickly-deepening dusk. Then for another 5-10 minutes leaving the rebel plug dead still.
At the 1st hint of the next movement a hole the size of a 5 gallon bucket magically opened beneath my lure with an audible WHOOOSHHH!!!
I was lucky that plug didn't take my eye out as it flew past my head at high speed, the result of my excited, early strike!
It was the 1st time in my young life that I had tried the tactic as offered me but not the last. And with age and experience came patience and success. Of course, you need the right largemouth bass lures and good bass tackle to haul ol' Mr. largemouth bass in!
That's one of the reasons we put Best-Bass-Lures.com together. To provide a site where you can find the best bass crankbaits, topwater plugs, good bassing spoons and more, all at reasonable prices.
